Baggage. Lots of baggage

20140517-115123.jpg

Sometimes 2 bags per person just ain’t enough when traveling. Good thing the planes have large wings.

Why is it that the good stuff weighs the most? Well, okay it’s the boat parts that are the heavy cargo. So much so that we had to enlist another traveler to bring some gear.

This is a big mule run. St Marten is a duty free island so there are no extra import or duty fees on items brought in for boats. Some places have an exemption for vessel in transit but there is a bit of paper work to go through so this trip we are dragging lots of spares and some improvements along. It all equates to 200+ lbs of gear. New shifting cable as a spare, new macerator as the starboard side hasn’t worked in years, and a new sound system to make the lake boys proud. Tho, will have to bring the subwoofers on another trip, probably when the solar panels get upgraded to play the deep base notes. The interior speakers deteriorated on the last trip and the outside speakers from the canaries were just about the only thing they had on the island to make the trip across the Atlantic. Not a necessity but we will also have some bow speakers for lounging on the trampoline. Should be a fun install.

Course some other odds and ends to do some routine maintenance, so looking forward to some water time and chilaxing on the hook in some bays on the way south to avoid the hurricane zone.

Arriving Dallas where the other 1/3 of the boat luggage comes on board. Sure hope that our taxi driver brings a van.

Breakfast….

The first admirals club is not always the best

Whew.

So.

Those people running through the airport. We are they.

30 mins to gate is normally fine. Stopping at the admirals club when you have over an hour, status quo.

Realizing that you are no where near the actual departure gate and you hear your flight last call and you are running in flip flops racing toward your last connection, there is a small amount of panic that sets in.

Out of shape, just swallowed some cold beverages and some unknown distance to the real gate. Time to keep running. Then it hits you. The next Announcement is your name asking you to appear at gate 44 before the doors close. Looking up. All we see us gate 22. Do you stop chance on the train? Or keep trying to run in flip flops to the gate? Run forest run. Or in reality jog fast cause that us all I got.

First class or not they will close the doors. Shin splints, stopping to pick up stuff falling out if the back packs we made it. Not last. Still time for a champagne. But barely. Still not sure who is sitting in Wayne’s actual seat, but he is also on board in the row ahead of us. Now intently looking to see if our bags get loaded. Not like the bags went to the admirals club before hand.

Wahoo.

Now looking at the time with the packed flight and making sure the passengers match their bags we could have chilled in the club for another few minutes except the plane doors are closed.

We win.

Grenada here we come. Boney, check the schedules as we are leaving late.

Cheers.
