What a hike around the island

What started off as a little walk around the island turned into a huge adventure. We were up early to see Jamie off and take her over the ferry to being her adventure in travels back home. Again it was overcast and littered with Rain showers so we were capturing water in the jugs and to replenish our bathing water. When the weather cleared we went ashore skipping breakfast as this walk wasn’t supposed to be a very long walk. We first went north and found another nice beach bar at a hotel that was quite lovely, but we weren’t ready for breakfast or lunch yet as it was only about a 1/2 mile after we started. Continue on, huge homes, silly large yards, and all with great numbers of guest houses. Hike to the top of the hills, down the dead end streets and found a “footpath” on the north side of the island so we took that in the rain, it led to the small spit of land that had waves crashing on 3 sides, so we hiked all the way down to the point and took some pictures.

Back up to the top of the hill and stayed along the east side of the island, were we could see the Atlantic ocean waves and nice breeze. Our one water bottle was not depleted of all its contents and once again we were cooled off by at rain shower. Hiking down hill and ending up at a dirt road that led the the beach we, took the beach route for a while. The beaches have a rocky ledge that lets you get from one beach to the next one around the corner. So we were beach hopping around the bays, thinking sooner or later we would see the beach on the south side of the island just around the corner from the boat. Well, 5 hrs later we were still no where near the south side. We found ourselves hiking over cliffs and rocks cutting corners and trying to find our way. We were in a nature conserve, and feeling a bit lost as there were no trails, no visible houses all we knew is where we had been. We hiked to higher ground to get a better view, and nothing presented itself. While deciding on a game plane, Wayne spots a Kawasaki Mule down near the water so we head that direction and low and behold they were gone when we got there, but at least there was a path we could follow. The blisters on the blisters were not feeling so good but we trudged on, up and down a few more hills. Everyone we beat and needing a cold beverage. Lost one more time, going the wrong way around a little lagoon, and finally we ended up at Basil for some nice cold beverages and nourishment. Of course while it rained a little again.

Jamie did make to St Lucia, but there is a whole story with that adventure too.

We are going to head to Mayreau, or Tabaggo Keys today, so we probably won’t have internet access for a few days.
